Volunteering at The Junction

We have a brilliant team of volunteers! A diverse bunch of individuals with a common desire to positively contribute to the support & services The Junction offers. We strive to ensure high quality volunteer experiences, which encourage both personal and professional development.

Are you able to give your time, talent and experience to support a local charity?

Are you interested in the health and wellbeing of the young people of Leith and North East Edinburgh?

Has the Junction helped you, a member of your family or someone else you know?

Whatever your motivation…….BECOME A TRUSTEE

The Junction is looking for a number of talented and committed people to join their Board of Trustees starting early 2018.

Along with a willingness contribute to our evolving peer working model, the essential requirements are enthusiasm for, and commitment to deliver our Vision – for all young people to reach their full potential.

We are particularly interested, but not exclusively, in people with some of the following skills and experience or knowledge of:

No previous trustee experience is required, as support will be provided.

Estimated time commitment per annum:

The Junction is an award winning young person’s health service for 12-21 year olds primarily in North East Edinburgh. We also support the development of health related work with young people throughout Edinburgh.

We offer access to a wide range of services, promoting health and wellbeing and providing young people with the skills to cope, enjoy life and reach their potential. We achieve this through education, information, and by providing a safe and welcoming environment with caring staff and volunteers who specialise in youth health.

People volunteer for different reasons but this can be an opportunity to have a new challenge, meet new people and develop your skills. We look forward to hearing from you and invite expressions of interest, in the first instance, by email info@the-junction.org or by phone, 0131 553 0570.

There are various ways people can volunteer within The Junction:

Junction Youth Advisors – for 12 – 21’s. The Junction Youth Advisors (JYA) is a group of local young people who support The Junction to provide free accessible health and wellbeing services to their peers in Leith and North East Edinburgh

Project Volunteers – over 21’s. Project Volunteers are involved in The Junction in a variety of ways, they support a range of health & wellbeing initiatives that offer young people the opportunity to explore health related issues.

Volunteer Counsellors – over 21’s. Trained and experienced Volunteer Counsellors do a great job of supporting our clients. Through their commitment to The Junction we are able to offer more sessions, over more time slots, over more days

Board of Trustees – over 21’s. The Junction could not do the vital work they do without the support of the Board of Trustees who have overall responsibility for the organisation.

Specialist Volunteers – In the past we have had two qualified Reiki Practitioners volunteering their skills, and a Volunteer Yoga Tutor. Specialist Volunteers bring opportunities for young people (and staff) to explore new activities.

Fundraising Volunteers – We are always grateful for those individuals who choose to support our work by fundraising for The Junction, whether it’s through running a marathon or holding money raising events. We have been lucky to have the support of a range of Volunteer Fundraisers, like:

Kyle Morrison, students from Edinburgh CollegeThe Junctioneers and The Junction EH11’ers.
